Lavelle Davison — performing as simply Davison on the show — was eliminated from The Voice in a battle round match that aired earlier this week.

But that just means the Little Rock, Ark., resident is getting an early start on post-show music.

Davison, 23 when he auditioned, came to The Voice as a background singer and manager at a superstore.

He hadn’t released music, but told Voice Views he had already been working on originals for a post-Voice career.

Davison described that music as “R&B / soul type music. I’m all about making music people can connect with, that people can feel. I like to make people get those goosebumps. That’s my goal in life: for my music to touch people.”

Davison earned his spot on the show by performing the Bee Gees “To Love Somebody” in the blind auditions, when he turned a pair of chairs. He opted to join Team Adam Levine, but wasn’t stolen after Adam declared Reid Umstattd the winner of their battle round match.

Here’s what Davison told Voice Views about his time on the show and his future plans.

Voice Views: I know the battles were filmed a while back. What have you been doing musically since then?

Davison: Since elimination everything has picked up tremendously. I’m in the studio working on my first album. I’ve been booked for some great shows. I’m still managing at Sam’s Club. I’m taking time out to develop my craft. I’ve enrolled in artist development.

Voice Views: Where do you see your time on the show leading you musically? Do you envision releasing more music anytime soon and, if so, what can you tell me about that?

Davison: Musically, my time on the show is definitely leading me in the right direction. Being eliminated was a hard pill to swallow but gave me the strength to want to push even harder. I’m preparing now in the studio weekly to put out a album that my fans will love.

Voice Views: Do you think you grew as an artist as a result of The Voice experience? If so, in what way?

Davison: I believe I grew mentally as an artist, but I believe I needed more time to learn what they were looking for.

Voice Views: Other than the new friends you made, what do you think you’ll remember most about the experience?

Davison: What I’ll remember most about my experience is that America validated me as not only a great singer, but a artist.
