Divas, Tatiana & Compromise dies; priceless TV!

Way to go, American Idol. Hollywood Week episode two was thoroughly entertaining.

Team Compromise. Team Tatiana. Team Diva.

The intrigue. The drama. The backstabbing.

And the tears. More tears than Ramiele Malubay and Brooke White shed in all of last year’s episodes put together. And that, folks, is a helluva feat.

I know I was smiling through the entire show. Laughing much of the time. I mean, this was cheese TV at it’s best. A pure train wreck of an Idol show.

Hey, it was group performance night. What did you expect?

The bad news: Rose Flack, who seemed so personable, is heading home, a casualty of Team Diva, which included, guess who? That’s right, Bikini Girl Katrina Darrell. (Keep reading for more on her.)

tatiana-del-torrod.jpgMore bad news: Tatiana Del Torro (right), with her annoying laugh and more annoying personality, is still around. Somehow, the entire Team Tatiana advanced, despite a very mediocre group performance. Just what were the judges judging?

Also still around is the clown, Nick Mitchell, though he apparently stopped acting like a clown during the group performance.

It’s no surprise that bizarre behavoir sometimes helps contestants on Idol. Here’s hoping it doesn’t help enough to get Tatiana and Nick into the final 36.

The good news: Jasmine Murray (above), just 16, survived the diva derailment. Count on her to be around for the semifinals. Kristen McNamara survived the commotion surrounding Team Compromise. I’m rooting for her to make the final 36, more because of what I’ve heard on YouTube than what I’ve seen on this year’s show so far.

After Monday’s show, I predicted Lil Rounds, Danny Gokey, Scott MacIntrye and Michael Sarver would advance to the voting rounds.

After last night, add Matt Giraud, Adam Lambert and Matt Breitzke to that list. I’m beginning to see why Simon predicted a male victor in 2009. This competition is loaded with talented guys.

Oh, Jamar Rogers, too. He’s best friends with Danny, and my guess is that’s a story line Idol won’t be able to refuse. Best friends going head-to-head in the semis. Idol producers must be salivating.

Others contestants seem to have disappeared. Casey Carlson, aka Bikini Girl #2, where are you? How about Joanna Pacitti, the ringer from Philly who has already recorded a CD with a major label? Anyone out there know what’s up with them?

We’ll likely find out Tuesday, when Hollywood Week continues.

As for poor little Bikini Girl, her MySpace mood was bummed Wednesday night after she got the boot. By Thursday afternoon, it had improved to contemplative.

By Thursday evening, the MySpace page had a whole new look, a flashing pink and black background filled with videos and music and looking for all the world like the gal’s ready to cash in on her Idol time.

She has a Web site, too. Katrinabinkigirl.com. It features a video of her practing with a band called Broddi Split. She wiggles her hips more than she sings.

And there’s a priceless “Who is Katrina?” link.

So, who is Katrina?

She tells us she grew up singing in a gospel choir. She tells us she was homeschooled most of her life. (Homeschool parents everywhere should be very, very worried by that revelation.) She’s done some theater. She’s done some songwriting (creative writing class, you know). She’s done some modeling. And here’s my favorite part …

“During pursuing my modeling career, I discovered another side to the prism that is Katrina; my love of design.” Apparently, she’s designing a clothing line called “Pairadice Threads” that includes, surprise, surprise, bikinis.

“So … What is it exactly that I do,” Katrina writes. “Well, if you must, let me sum it up for you … I’m a singer/model/actress/clothing line owner/student … I’m sure i will add more to this list!!! … I don’t care what people think, I’m driven toward success and nothing will stop me!!!”

Better hurry, Bikini Girl.

Six months from now, I doubt anyone will care.
