Whoa.

Was that a collective yawn I heard from the music-buying public about the release of the American Idol Season Nine compilation album?

The album features a song apiece from each of Idol’s top 10 contestants.

The songs includes Lee DeWyze’s “Treat Her Like a Lady,” Crystal Bowersox’s “Me and Bobby McGee” and Casey James’ “Jealous Guy.”

Anyway, the album debuted at number 77 on the Billboard 200 this week.

Compare that to the American Idol Season Eight album, which debuted at number 34 and didn’t dip below 77 until six weeks after its release.

Yep, I’d call that a yawn.

Elsewhere on the Billboard charts …

Kris Allen: Kris’ second single (“The Truth”) is out now, but “Live Like We’re Dying is still number 50 on the Hot 100, down two notches from last week. It peaked at number 18.

Kelly Clarkson: At this point, “All I Ever Wanted” looks unlikely to match the success of the first three singles off Kelly’s album
by the same name. It’s number 12 among adult pop songs, but drops two spots 100 among the Hot 100 singles.

Fantasia has released
'Bittersweet,' a new single; her new album is due out July 13.Daughtry: Chris and the gang appeared on Idol last week. This week, their second album vaults from 95 to 51 on the Billboard 200. Just saying.

Fantasia: Hey, I didn’t think much of the song when Fantasia performed it on Idol, but that new single, “Bittersweet,” made a big jump on the R&B/Soul chart this week, from 43 to 27.

Danny Gokey: His debut album drops from 118 to 139 on the Billboard 200. It’s been on the charts 11 weeks now, debuting at number four. The album holds steady at 24 among country CDs. Meanwhile, Danny’s first single has dropped out of the top 30 on the county chart.

Adam Lambert: “Whataya Want From Me” slips four spots on the Hot 100, from 24 to 28. It’s number 12 among adult contempoary singles. Adam’s album, “For Your Entertainment,” is 72 on the Billboard 200, down from 56.

Carrie Underwood: Check out hard-charging Carrie. Her “Undo It” single vaults from 95 to 73 on the Hot 100. That’s a jump of 22 spots. The song moves from 23 to 19 among country singles.

Carrie’s “Play On” album is still tops among the Idols on the Billboard 200 at number 31, down one spot. It holds steady at number five on the
Bllboard 200.

We Are the Fallen: With season seven contestant Carly Smithson as lead vocalist, We Are the Fallen debut at number 33 on the Billboard 200. The “Tear the World Down” CD checks in at number 12 among rock albums and number six among hard rock albums.
