And she sounds fabulous on a song that includes hints of country, pop and, most of all, soul.
If you haven’t heard it, check it out below.
Alisan wrote the song with Matt Rollings and Stephony Smith; it was produced by Greg Wells, who has worked with Elton John and Adele.
“This song means the world to me,” Alisan wrote on Instagram. “It was a long journey to get here and I am grateful for every step of the way. All the right stars aligned for this moment.”
What she doesn’t mention is that she chose artistic integrity over a chance to release an album with Republic Records.
When her post-show record deal “didn’t work out,” she headed to Nashville and “went back to the drawing board.”
The single represents the first taste of an upcoming EP. No release date has been announced.
But we’ll get a chance to watch Alisan sing the song live on this week’s Voice results show.
That’s right, folks. Hallelujah. Instead of featuring a guest performer who has absolutely nothing to do with the show, The Voice has finally decided to invite back one of its own to sing Tuesday night.
As for “Deep Water,” it hadn’t charted on iTunes as of 8 a.m. I imagine that’s just a matter of time.
Pre-Voice, Alisan released a pair of albums, a self-titled project in 2009 and an album called “Who Are We” in 2014.
