Former Voice standout Morgan Wallen releases debut country EP

Morgan Wallen to the list of up-and-coming country artists who have released new music since appearing on The Voice.

In Morgan’s case, the new music comes in the form of a five-track EP called “The Way I Talk” that hit iTunes Friday.

Twenty-four hours later, it was number 21 on the iTunes country albums chart.

Morgan, from Knoxville, Tenn., was 20 when he auditioned for The Voice and made it all the way to the Top 20 on Season 6.

He had released a couple of singles since appearing on the show, but the EP marks his first major project.

And it comes with label backing. Earlier this year, Morgan became the second artist signed to Big Loud Records of Nashville.

In a press release announcing the signing, label president Clay Hunnicutt said Morgan’s “distinctive voice, undeniable talent and great character caught us all from the very first meeting.”

Says Morgan on Facebook: “I couldn’t be with a better group of people. They’ve become like a family to and I’m super blessed … I’ve been writing and working to get this thing just right and I can’t thank everyone enough who’s had a part in this project.”

Judging from iTunes, the title track from the EP is the most popular so far, but you’ll also want to be sure to check out “Chain Smokin'” and “Whiskey Glasses.”

And if you like what you hear and live in the south central Pennsylvania area, good news: Morgan will be playing nearby next week.

He and label mate Chris Lane will perform Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Carroll County Fair in Westminster, Md. Tickets are $15. Chris is the headliner; Morgan will kick off the show at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, you can follow Morgan through Facebook and his website. On Twitter, he’s @MorganCWallen.
