Just a day after Billboard reported that Nick Fradiani is no longer a Big Machine Records artist, we learn that Season 8 The Voice champ Sawyer Fredericks has parted ways with his record label as well.
Sawyer made the announcement on his Facebook page Thursday evening.
“Some of you may have noticed that I’m no longer listed with Republic Records and Mick Management,” he writes. “Yes, I am now an independent artist and looking forward to 2017, working on releasing an independent album and continuing to tuor.”
He called the parting of ways “an amicable and mutual decision” and said his mother will take over the management of his career.
You’ll recall that Sawyer was just 15 when he auditioned for The Voice and, after winning, said he couldn’t wait to return to the family farm in Fultonville, N.Y. He also balked at the notion of relocating to a music haven like Los Angeles or Nashville.
While with Republic Records, he released an EP in November 2015 and a debut album — with just six new songs — in May of last year.
He’s also been touring constantly, often with friends from The Voice, including Mia Z, Amy Vachal and Gabriel Wolfchild.
On Facebook, he’s asking fan to help determine where he performs in 2017. You can also follow Sawyer on Twitter, where he’s @SawyerFrdrx.

This is the fate of all The Voice contestants.
I think it is horrible of The Voice and the extremely well paid coach’s that they do not support the winners. The coach of The Voice winner of South Africa went on tour with Richard Stirton. Now they are doing it right over there!
