His audition: Brooks Rosser, 22, Bel Air, Md., “Your Place at My Place” by Joshua Sloane: He has unique high-pitched vocals that make you listen. Carrie Underwood called him a “unicorn” because of his unique sound. He sings a snippet of “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” and sounds even better. Lionel Richie calls his vocals “major stuff.”

* He didn’t announce his Idol audition until early this year and doesn’t appear to have released music, but he has a distinct vocal sound.

* He already has nearly 700 followers on TikTok and more than 16,000 likes on his videos there.

* His mom recently posted that she and her son are both “deadheads,” adding that Brooks says going to Dead & Company concerts with her inspired his love of music.

* She describes his music as in the folk-pop genre.

* Brooks’ most popular covers on TikTok are songs by Lewis Capaldi and X Ambassadors. And Joshua Sloane appears to be among his favorite artists to cover.

* He also recently posted a cover of “Easy” by The Commodores and Mr. Lionel Richie.

* Brooks admitted to Idol that he has very little performance experienced. He’d participated in a couple of gigs prior to his Idol audition, but as a guitar player, not a singer.

* For the last three years, he’s worked as a dementia care medication tech at Hart Heritage Assisted Living, saying he found the job rewarding after helping his grandmother deal with dementia and making a connection with her through music.
