Franklin Boone was eliminated from American Idol Sunday, but we’ll soon be hearing more from the Durham, N.C.-based singer-songwriter.
In fact, followers of his social media have already heard more. He’s posted quarantine covers since his elimination, a message to fans about the experience and launched a cameo accounta cameo account for anyone who would like a personalized video.
Coming up: New original music from a guy who had already released nine singles since 2015.
Franklin, 27 when he auditioned and an instructor at the School of Rock, earned a unanimous golden ticket in his initial appearance before the Idol judges for his performance of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.”
Here’s what he told Idol Chatter about his experience with the show.
Idol Chatter: What do you consider your biggest takeaway / lesson learned from the American idol experience?
Franklin: This experience made me a better performer & musician! I definitely feel that I improved vocal technique, musicianship and stage presence.
Idol Chatter: Which was your favorite American Idol performance and why?
Franklin: My favorite was Hollywood Week, round 1 (line of ten/genre challenge) I sang one of my favorite songs: “I Don’t Trust Myself” by John Mayer. The full song was never released (except as a sound recording on my Instagram). But it was a very memorable moment for me because it was my first time in front of my peers and the judges in Hollywood and I felt great! Plus I loved everyone’s reactions!
Idol Chatter: What was the experience like, performing for American Idol — and fans around the country — from your own home?
Franklin: I learned a lot about production, staging, lighting and many other things, which was great. I also learned valuable techniques for connecting with viewers despite any obstacles that may arise. It was a blessing that the show didn’t get cancelled and it was so cool to see us all pull this off. American Idol definitely made history this year.
Idol Chatter: Obviously lots of plans are in limbo because of the pandemic, but what are your post-Idol plans musically? Where are you hoping this opportunity leads?
Franklin: I plan to release an album ASAP, and to release tons of content online. I’ll do live-stream concerts until I can perform live again, and have set up an account on the Cameo App, where fans can request songs and personalized messages from me for gifts, special occasions or just for fun!
Idol Chatter: Do you plan to release music anytime soon? If so, what can you say about the sound, the timing, etc.?
Franklin: I have a TON of original music in the pipeline, I may release a single or two ahead of releasing a full-length album.
Idol Chatter: Finally, is there anything else you’d like to add about the Idol experience?
Franklin: I’m so blessed to have made so many new connections and friends with contestants and people working on the show!
