Nick Jonas nabbed four-chair turn recipient Zae Romeo as five more artists earned spots on The Voice Tuesday night.
The others to sing their way onto the show were veteran performer Aaron Konzelman and teens Gean Garcia, Ethan Lively and Carolina Rial.
Here’s a recap, with my picks for the night’s best performances.
BEST OF THE NIGHT
The artist: Gean Garcia, 19, McAllen, Texas
Audition song: “All I Want” by Kodaline
Chair turns: Blake Shelton turned early in the performance. Nick Jonas turned too, but was blocked by Blake. Kelly Clarkson joined the party at the last minute.
Feedback: Kelly Clarkson said his voice sounded “beautifully broken” and that she thinks he’ll go far on the show. Blake says he thinks fans will connect with his voice.
His choice: He joined Team Kelly.
My take: Gean displayed the most unique tone of any of the singers on Tuesday’s show. John Legend called his vocals haunting. So, John, how come you were the only coach not to turn. That was a four-chair turn performance.
RUNNER-UP
The artist: Carolina Rial, 17, Ridgefield, N.J.
Audition song: “Stay With Me” by Sam Smith
Chair turns: A soaring note early in the song prompted chair turns from John Legend and Nick Jonas.
Feedback: Nick called her voice what The Voice is all about. John said she breathed new life into the song and called her range exquisite and her control insane.
Her choice: She joined Team Legend.
My take: The performance was a bit more frill-filled than I prefer. But she’s only 17 and was auditioning in a setting where frills open mean chair turns. What amazed me were the dynamics in that performance, for soaring notes to that tender ending. At age 17.

ALSO MADE THE SHOW
The artist: Aaron Konzelman, 39, Waco, Texas
Audition song: “Ordinary World” by Duran Duran
Chair turns: Blake Shelton and John Legend turned almost simultaneously before Aaron reached the song’s chorus.
Feedback: John said Aaron sounded raspy and angelic at the same time and seemed to take joy in performing music. Blake said The Voice doesn’t get many artists like Aaron.
His choice: Aaron joined Team Blake.
The artist: Zae Romeo, 21, McKinney, Texas
Audition song: “Falling” by Harry Styles
Chair turns: An impressive glory note early in the performance prompted chair turns from Kelly Clarkson and Nick Jonuas. John Legend and Blake Shelton later turned as well.
Feedback: John like the twists and turns in his performance. Nick called his performance spiritual and phenomenal. Kelly said she “loves” Zae’s voice and the emotional in his performance.
His choice: Zae joined Team Nick.
The artist: Ethan Lively, 17, Coalfield, Tenn.
Audition song: “You Look So Good in Love” by George Strait.
Chair turns: Ethan was well into the song when he pre-audition coach of choice, Blake Shelton, turned.
Feedback: Kelly called his “so charming.” Blake complimented him on having an “nice, tough” singing voice that he uses in a soft way.
His choice: Ethan automatically became Team Blake.
