Gianna Isabella went home as a Top 10 finisher on American Idol Thursday night.

But during a conference call with the media on Friday, the teenager said she and Olivia Rox should consider themselves winners.

After all, thousands of people auditioned for the final season of American Idol. Only eight succeeded in making it deeper into the competition than they did.

Gianna and Olivia landed in the bottom three during Thursday night’s show. They were sent home after all three performed save-me songs and the judges decided to save Avalon Young.

Gianna, just 15 when she auditioned, said she and her parents — including former pop star mom Brenda K. Starr — are “taking it well.”

“You just want to keep pushing your career,” said Gianna, who previously made it to the Top 40 girls on the final season of The X Factor.

And where that’s concerned, Gianna has some definite post-Idol plans.

They include taking dancing and acting lessons so she can get into musical theater and improve her stage presence. That’s already the area where she thinks she made the greatest strides on Idol.

And she’d like to learn another language so she can sing in more than English. Her mom recorded albums in English and Spanish.

Gianna says her favorite Idol performance was her duet with Nick Fradiani; she calls the Season 14 winner “a great mentor,” partly because he’d been on a season with lots of young contestants and knew how to relate to her.

She says the thing she’ll miss most about the show is — believe it or not — the judges’ critiques because of how much they helped her improve. Of course, the judges also consistently praised Gianna’s big vocals and her potential.

As for her favorite moment — it came on the night of her elimination.

“Not every 15-year-old gets to say they’ve performed with Demi Lovato,” referring to the segment in Thursday’s show when the pop star was joined on-stage by all the remaining Idol girls for a performance of “Confident.”

“I’m a huge fan of hers,” Gianna added. “All my friends paid VIP to go to see her. I didn’t have that kind of money, so I couldn’t go. To find out I would get to perform with her was extremely insane.”
