Season 13

Hear more from American Idol’s Symphony Howlett

When Symphony Howlett’s name flashed on the screen during American Idol’s Detroit audition episode, I thought it sounded familiar.

For good reason. Back in Season 10, she made it all the way to Idol’s Vegas round as Symphony Music Howlett before being eliminated.

We got to see just a glimpse of Symphony during the Detroit episode, but she auditioned with Sara Bareilles’ “Gravity.”

But in her Road to Hollywood video, Symphony says the audition went just like she hoped it would, thanks to her ability to leave her nerves behind, and she got unanimous approval from the judges.

“A lot of people said, ‘You’ve done this before. It’s probably not as exciting for you.’ No. It was so exciting. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been here. It’s a new feeling all over again.”

The 24-year-old from Miami says she was thrilled that Jennifer remembered her, even though she has a “new style now.”

Artists who inspire Symphony include Celine Dion, Fleetwood Mac, Christina Aguilera, Elvis Presley and Ella Fitzgerald.

“It’s a wide variety of people from different parts of my life when I listened to different genres of music,” she says. “They inspired me and made me who I am today — the style I have now.”

Symphony says she also acts, writes music, plays guitar and … belly dances. In fact, she belly danced for 13 years, according to her YouTube profile from back in Season 10.

Symphony just posted an original song, which I’ve embedded below along with a couple of other samples of her music. You can hear more on her YouTube channel.
