American Idol Season 15

Hear more from Olivia Rox of American Idol Season 15

of American Idol contestants have released their own music.

Not too many have starred in their own movie.

But that’s one of the accomplishments on Olivia Rox’s resume. Back in 2012, the now 16-year-old starred in “Olivia Rox: The Movie,” in which she goes searching for her lost dog Figaro and winds up trying to solve the mystery of who stole all the puppies at the local animal shelter, putting it in danger of closing its doors.

These days, Olivia seems more focused on her music. She’s written more than 300 songs and began posting documentaries on the life of an independent musician last year on YouTube.

We met Olivia, from Agoura Hills, Calif., during Thursday’s audition episode of American Idol. She’s the young woman who hails from a musical family. Her dad, Warren Hill, is an accomplished saxophonist. Her mom, Tamara Van Cleef, sang in an alternative rock band.

On Idol, Olivia sat behind the piano and wowed the judges with a performance of Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man.”

Harry Connick Jr. called her “extraordinarily talented” and “very refreshing.” Jennifer Lopez predicted that she’s “somebody who can add a lot to this competition.”

After telling the judges that her favorite Idol winner is Kelly Clarkson, who she thinks is “pretty awesome,” Olivia even got a shout-out on Twitter from the original Idol.

Wrote Kelly: “Olivia, we have got to meet! So flattered that such a talented girl likes anything I’ve ever done :)”

Olivia’s response: “OMG! Thank u so much!! Meeting you would be a dream come true, you r incredible!”

Olivia was also a contestant on America’s Got Talent back in 2013. She doesn’t seem to have released any of her original music, but I’ve posted a couple of songs below.

You can follow the teen on her website or Facebook. On Twitter, she is @oliviaroxstar.

Oh, and if you’d like to see the trailer for that movie, head here.
