Gee, really folks.
The X Factor, easily the worst, least talented and most overblown of TV singing shows somehow took the award for Favorite TV competition at the People’s Choice Awards Wednesday night.
And Demi Lovato — yep, she of the irritating voice — was named favorite celebrity judge over Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez. My vote would have gone to Adam.
As for the favorite TV competition category, the other nominees were The Voice, American Idol, America’s Got Talent and Dancing with the Stars.
American Idol had won the honor three straight years.
Honestly, folks, wasn’t the voting already in on this category? Didn’t fans vote by tuning in or tuning out when the shows were on?
Idol still drew more viewers than any other singing show in 2012. The Voice ratings soared during Season 3.
The X Factor? It’s ratings dropped below The Voice and below a disappointing Season 1.
So I don’t think it’s really the people’s choice. Just the choice of the people who voted for these awards.
Other winners with a connection to singing shows were Maroon 5, which took honors for favorite band, and Nicki Minaj, named favorite hip-hop artist.
Carrie Underwood was nominated in three categories, but failed to score a People’s Choice Award.
In those categories, honors for favorite country artist went to Taylor Swift, honors for favorite female artist went to Katy Perry, and honors for best album went to One Direction for “Up All Night.”

Meanwhile, here are more photos from the show.
