For the past six years, at least one former American Idol contestant has left music’s biggest night with a Grammy award.

Well, that streak ends at six.

Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Mandisa were each nominated for Grammys, but awards were presented in their categories during the pre-show, and all three missed out.

Mandisa was nominated for Best Contemporary Christian Album for “What If We Were Real.” The Grammy went to Chris Tomlin for “And if Our God Is for Us.”

Kelly was nominated along with Jason Aldean for Best Country Duo or Group Performance for “Don’t You Want to Stay.” The Grammy went to The Civil Wars for “Barton Hollow.”

And Carrie was nominated for Best Country Vocal Performance for “Mamma’s Song.” The Grammy went to Taylor Swift for her hit, “Mean.”

If there’s a consolation prize, earlier today, Tony Bennett won the Grammy for Best Tradition Pop Album for Duets II, which features his performance of “It Had to Be You,” with Carrie Underwood.  That’s the song they’re to sing on tonight’s broadcast.

Oh, well, best of luck to Carrie, Kelly and Mandisa for the nominations.
