The big news this week: Michael Johns makes his debut on the charts with his new album, “Hold Back My Heart.”
And Adam Lambert’s pre-Idol song, “Wanted,” fails to crack the top 25 on Billboard’s list of hot digital downloads, in part because of another M.J. — that’s right, Michael Jackson.
Of the top 25 singles among hot digital downloads, 12 are songs from the King of Pop. Of the top 10 albums on the hot digital downloads chart, six were released by Michael Jackson.
Here’s a rundown of where the Idols stand on the latest Billboard charts.
Kelly Clarkson: Kelly was on “Dancing With the Stars,” singing “I Do Not Hook Up” Thursday night, but the single fell on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the third straight week, from 25 to 27. “My Life Would Suck Without You” actually rebounded a bit, climbing from 48 to 44; it reached number one earlier this year. Kelly’s fourth album, “All I Ever Wanted” is 58th on the Hot 200, up four spots from a week ago.
David Cook: “Come Back to Me” inches up another two spots to number eight on the Adult Top 40 chart. David’s debut album checks in at 87 on the Hot 200, down from 74.
Daughtry: With the new album release date (July 12) rapidly approaching, the lead-in single, “No Surprise,” continues to climb the charts. This week, it’s up six spots to 39 on the Hot 100 and two spots to number nine on the Adult Top 40 chart. The Daughtry debut album is 91 on the Hot 200.
Jennifer Hudson: After 33 weeks on the charts, “If This Isn’t Love” still clings to the number 24 spot on the R&B singles chart. Jennifer’s Grammy-winning debut album is 49 on the R&B/Hip-Hop album chart, down three notches from last week.
Michael Johns: “Hold Back My Heart,” the first post-Idol album from the season seven contestant, debuted at number 97 on the Billboard Hot 200 and number 12 on the top independent album chart.
Mandisa: After three straight weeks at number 13, the single, “My Deliverer,” falls one spot to number 14 among Hot Christian songs. The single peaked at number nine.
Kellie Pickler: “Best Days of Your Life” seems to be losing steam on the Billboard Hot 100, stalled at number 46. It’s number 14 on the country singles chart. Kellie’s second album dropped from 69 to 76 on the Hot 200 chart, but rose one spot, to number 17, on the country album chart.
Jordin Sparks: Time will tell if touring with the Jonas Brothers pays off for Jordin. Here’s guessing it can’t hurt. Meanwhile, “Battlefield,” the lead-in single to her second album, moves up a spot to number 30 on the Hot 100 and eight spots to number 28 on the Pop 100.
Ruben Studdard: “Love Is,” Ruben’s fourth album, fell out of the top 50 on the R&B chart after checking in at number 45 a week ago. It reached number eight at one point shortly after its release.
Carrie Underwood: “Carnival Ride,” the album that earned Carrie a Teen Choice Award nomination, is now 59 on the Hot 200, down from 55 last week. A year and a half after its release, it’s still number 15 on the country album chart.
