John Legend paired two of his young male singers — Talon Cardon and Jacob Maxwell — for a battle round match.
Jacob, 20, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, performed “Delicate” by Taylor Swift for his blind audition and turned two chairs.
Talon, 18, of Orem, Utah, auditioned with “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur and enticed John to turn.

The song: “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic” by The Police
The feedback: Adam Levine and Blake Shelton both felt Jacob showed a bit more control and won the battle. Kelly Clarkson said the song sounded more like something Jacob would do in concert. John complimented them both on the energy they brought to the stage.
The outcome: John awarded the win to Jacob. Talon wasn’t stolen and was eliminated.
My take: First off, hated the song choice. You’ve got two talented young male singers and you give them a pop song from 1981? Kudos to Talon for trying to put his own stamp on the song, even if he did hit a couple of bum notes. But Jacob was the more consistent singer and delivered stage presence and energy as well, especially as the song wound down.
