Jacob Maxwell, a worship team musician, auditioned for The Voice Season 16

His audition: Jacob Maxwell, 20, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, performed “Delicate” by Taylor Swift for his blind audition. Kelly Clarkson and John Legend turned very early during an impressive vocal. John called his voice “heavenly.” Jacob opted to join Team John Legend.

About Jacob:

* Even at his young age, Jacob is something of a worship team veteran. On Instagram, he writes that he’s been part of worship teams at Anthem Church for six years.

* “It becomes very easy to look at it as normal, or routine,” he writes alongside a photo of his worship team on stage. “Looking at this photo from a couple years back, just reminds me of what a privilege it is do this. Praising my savior with my community in the presence of God, and encountering Jesus with one another is truly an amazing thing. I don’t want to take it for granted, and I never want to look at it as routine. Grateful for everyone who has been a part of my life in this area since I was 14.”

* Jacob also posted a photo of a three-song EP called “A Sound of Light” released last year in conjunction with Anthem Church and said he was proud to be involved in the project.

* But Jacob’s experience goes beyond the worship team and Christian music. He also performs acoustic shows and his YouTube covers include artists like Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and the indie folk group The Head and the Heart.

* Jacob also recently posted an original to YouTube, a song called “Beautiful Woman,” which you can check out below. It features lovely harmonies courtesy of Nadia Luhring and Abel Siemons, who wrote the song.

* Jacob calls his “original music very unique. As I grow and develop, my musical taste does as well. So my songs sound different back to back, but they’re very much my own style!”

* Jacob told Voice Views he always wanted to audition for the show. “My girlfriend actually gave me the final push!”

* Prior to The Voice, he said his biggest performance was an event called “Live after 5” in Coeur d’Alene. He said he opened for a band in front of hundreds.

* He said he chose “Delicate” for his blind audition song because it’s one not a lot of guys cover. “I wanted to stand out with a popular song in a way that not a lot of people have heard yet.”

* And why did he opt for Team John? “I went with John Legend as my coach because it’s his first season, and I feel like he will be putting in the most passion and intention into this team because this is so fresh for him,” Jacob told Voice Views. “Also I truly feel like he believes in me. He’s a true leader!”
