She performed a new patriotic song of her own — “Somebody’s Kid” — and also released the song.
The song was inspired by her brother, who is serving in the U.S. Marines.
And while Jax caught some backlash from fans for accepting an invite to perform at the July 4 celebration the president and his wife hosted for military families, Jax defended her decision, saying it’s a shame some people can’t separate politics from patriotism.
“It was such an incredible experience performing at the White House last night!” Jax wrote on Instagram Thursday. “The past 48 hours have been an absolute surreal ride.
“Thank you guys so much for all of your love and support … and for keeping this moment about the military families. It has truly been an honor.”
As for the song, Jax was known as the pop-rocker on Idol, but it has a definite country flator.
Added Jax: “My little bro is still pretty annoyed that I said he had ‘acne on his chin’ in the first verse.”
Wednesday’s event on the South Lawn of the White House also featured Season 15 American Idol contestant Jonny Brenns, country artist Sara Evans, pianist Lola Astanova, and the U.S. Marine, Navy and Air Force Bands.
Jonny sang “What a Wonderful World.”
Jax was the third-place finisher on Season 14 of American Idol.
Here’s Jax’s July 4 performance of the original and the link to the iTunes version of the song.
