It’s official: Jordin Sparks is diva worthy.
While the whole world — or is it just the whole American Idol world? — seems to be fixated on Paula Abdul’s every move, you might have missed that bit of news.
Yes, Paula’s new gigs include hosting VH1 Divas 2009 on Sept. 17 (9 p.m. EST).
But at the same time VH1 announced that Paula would host the 2009 show, we learned that Jordin would be one of the performers.
The timing is great for Idol’s season six winner, who just released her second album, has been on tour with the Jonas Brothers most of the summer and is now on tour with Britney Spears.
(Think she’ll have some great stories to tell by the end of the year? Think we’ll ever hear them?)
Jordin Sparks will join fellow Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, Adele, Leona Lewis and Miley Cyrus on the Diva stage. Stay tuned: VH1 has two more divas to announce.
As it is, it’s a pretty green group. Four albums into her career, Kelly is the vet of the bunch. Miley and Jordin are still teens; Leona and Adele haven’t released a second album yet.
You can head to to VH1’s Web site to learn more about the upcoming show. My favorite part: You can also vote for your all-time favorite Diva videos.
Lots of Idol videos to choose from, including “Battlefield” by Jordin, “When I See You” by Fantasia, “And I am Telling You I’m Not Coming” by Jennifer Hudson, and “Last Name” and “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood.
Ms. Clarkson has three videos among the nominees: “I Do Not Hook Up,” “Already Gone” and “Since U Been Gone.”
And the choices aren’t limited to recent hits. You’ll find some surprises on the list. Or at least what I considered surprises. Classics like “Kiss Me Deadly” by Lita Ford, “Naughty Girls Need Love Too” by Samantha Fox and “Cold Hearted” by … who else? … that’s right, everyone’s favorite former Idol judge.
Can’t get enough Paula …
Here’s a link to an AP story in which she talks about her “dream” role on the TV show “Drop Dead Diva.”
Here’s a link to a story about Paula’s TV Guide interview, where she talks about why she hasn’t re-signed with Idol.
And here’s a link to the latest news on guest judges Idol is using to fill Paula’s seat.
