So it was only natural that she accompanied herself on the instrument when she auditioned for Season 21 of The Voice.
Performing Mike Posner’s “Please Don’t Go,” Kaitlyn certainly didn’t have to plead for chair turns.
Her unique vocals prompted near simultaneous turns from John Legend and Blake Shelton before she even hit the chorus of the song.
The 21-year-old Long Island native, who’s studying music at Berklee, opted to join Team Blake.
Here’s what Kaitlyn told Voice Views about her blind audition experience.
Voice Views: How did you wind up auditioning for Season 21 of The Voice? Had you considered auditioning or tried auditioning before? If so, what made the difference this time?
Kaitlyn: This wasn’t my first time auditioning for the show. I auditioned back in 2019. I wasn’t sure at first about auditioning, but after some time, I finally decided to give it a shot. I’m so glad that I did because it’s been such an amazing experience so far.
Voice Views: Why did you decide to perform “Please Don’t Go” for your audition song?
Kaitlyn: I chose to sing this song because I felt like I could really make it my own. It’s a very up beat techno pop song and I wanted to create a version that would be authentic to my style. I chose to make it more moody and give it an acoustic vibe. This was a song I loved back in the 2010’s.

Voice Views: How would you describe that blind audition experience?
Kaitlyn: It was honestly so surreal. It felt like a true out of body experience! I remember just being in awe over the fact that I was in front of all of the coaches. They are so nice and encouraging and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to perform in front of such icons.
Voice Views: And why did you decide to join Team Blake? That was a bit of a shocker!
Kaitlyn: When they both turned for me (John and Blake), I had no idea what I was going to do! After hearing both of them talk and make their cases as to why they should coach me, I felt as though Blake made the most sense for me. I loved how he was able to tell that I was an artist and wanted to embrace my style.
