Kelly, of course, did a splendid job of the anthem, and she’s getting rave reviews from her Idol colleagues.

* Kevin Covais: “Kelly Clarkson just delivered a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem. Everybody else in the music industry, take notes.”

* Chris Sligh: “No joke. Kelly Clarkson just took the National Anthem out into a field & killed it out of pity. No one should ever approach that song again.”

And this just in from the singer herself:  “Guess what ….I’ve never been more nervous in my life than singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl tonight.”

Before the Patriots and Giants take center stage this evening, Kelly Clarkson will do so, singing the national anthem before the Super Bowl in Indianapolis.

She’s hardly the first American Idol to do so.

In fact, Idols have sang the anthem at three of the last four Super Bowls, a streak broken only last year when Christina Aguilera, judge on The Voice, did the honors.
