And this is a song with a very personal message for Kelly.

During the chrous, she sings “piece by piece / he restored my faith / that a man could be kind / and a father could stay.”

Basically, the song is about her father, who wasn’t in her life as she grew up; her parents divorced when she was 6.

And it’s a tribute to her husband, Brandon Blackstock, with whom she has had one child and is expecting another.

In fact, their daughter, River Rose, appears in the final scene of the emotional black-and-white video.

“My husband came in my life and he’s the complete opposite of how my father was,” Kelly told CBS earlier this week in an interview you can watch here. “He was present. He wins for being around.”

“It was a very vulnerable song in a sense of like saying aloud, ‘Yes, I did have help and somebody helped put me back together.’ A lot of people would view that as weakness, but I think it’s a strength to trust someone to do that.”

“Piece by Piece” is the third single off Kelly’s album by the same name.
