John Legend has had no trouble convincing the most coveted artists to join his team on Season 17 of The Voice.

And after Khalea Lynee turned four chairs in the blinds audition, he praised her beautiful tone and the choices she made during the performance.

His sales pitch probably wasn’t even necessary.

Khalea worked her blind audition magic covering “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar.

Here’s what the 36-year-old from Clearwater, Fla., told Voice Views about her blind audition experience.

Voice Views: How did you wind up auditioning for The Voice Season 17 and what prompted you to do it?

Khalea: My audition was prompted by one of the show’s casting producers reaching out to me. They listened to some of my cover videos from social media & emailed me with an invitation to audition for season 17 of The Voice. I took them up on their offer & am SO glad I did!

Voice Views: Why did you choose “Best Part” for your audition song? Is that a song you’ve performed often?

Khalea: “Best Part” is a song that I’ve performed many times, at various shows, weddings, etc. So it’s a tune that I’m very comfortable with. One of my musician friends & I even have an acoustic cover video of us performing it together on YouTube. It has such an awesome groove & feel to it.

Voice Views: And what was that blind audition experience like? I mean, you had three chairs facing in your direction in a heartbeat?

Khalea: The blind audition experience was so surreal. It felt as though I was having an out-of-body experience! I was there, but I wasn’t there lol. It was so amazing to see those chairs turn around so quickly. I was really anxious back stage, but once I started to sing, I was able to get in my zone & just focus on delivering a good performance. It was a moment I’ll never forget.

Voice Views: Why did you decide to join Team Legend?

Khalea: My mind was made up well before going out on stage, that if Coach John turned his chair for me, I was going to select him as my coach. I’m a big fan of his music, his style, his professionalism, and his ability to deliver timeless music over & over again. All things that I aspire to accomplish as an artist & performer. I knew in my gut that if I selected him to be my coach, I would go far in this competition. I couldn’t be more excited to work with him.
