Finalists for the 2011 Billboard Music Awards were announced today.
Just one Idol received a nomination, and it would probably rank as a bit of a surprise.
Kris Allen’s lead single, “Live Like We’re Dying,” has been nominated as the Top Christian Song.
Now, for those who might have missed it (and that would include me), Kris’ single did crack Billboard’s Hot Christian Singles chart.
In fact, it climbed as high as number 21. Which isn’t as high as it charted on the Hot 100 (18), adult contemporary (8) or adult pop songs (3).
Kris’ competitors in the category include “All of Creation” by MercyMe, “Lead Me” by Sanctus Real, “Get Back Up” by tobyMac and “Our God” by Chris Tomlin.
Leading the way for Billboard finalists are Rihanna with 18 nominations, Eminem with 16 and Lady Gaga with 12.
The Billboard Music Awards will be televised 8 p.m. May 22 on ABC. You can head here for the complete list of finalists.

Why can’t you just give congratulations where congratulations are due? Maybe YOU can’t understand it, but many others can.
