Every March is seems like we get a host of new music from former Idol contestants, just as the new season of Idol finals begins.

This year will be no exception, with album releases this month from Ruben Studdard, Casey James and Elliott Yamin.

And Kris Allen, the Season 8 winner, is back too, with a new single released to radio today.

The song is called “The Vision of Love.” You can listen to it on Kris’ website, where there’s also a video of him performing the song at The Mint in Los Angeles.

But you won’t be able to get the song until later this month.

Kris tweeted last week that WalMart will start selling the physical single exclusively on March 26; the song will be available on iTunes the next day.

The song, written by Kris, Nasri Atweh and Adam Messinger, is the lead single for Kris’ second post-Idol album, which could come out in late May or early June, according to an interview Kris did with Clevver News in early February.

In a press release announcing the single and in the interview with Clevver News, Kris says he’s appreciated having more time to work on this album than on his first, which was released just months after winning Idol. That debut disc fell well short of becoming a major hit.

He told Clevver News he didn’t get to spend much time in the recording studio for that album. “It was kind of like, go into the studio, sing for a couple of hours and see how the track turned out.”

This time around, “I’ve played on a lot of the songs, worked with the producers and really kind of sussed stuff out and really worked on it.”

The result: “It really offered me time to hone my craft and create something that really represents who I am as a musician,” Kris says in the release.
