The new song is the heartfelt “Newport,” released late last month.
The new gig is performing alongside former Voice champ Alisan Porter as part of her band.
Kylie told Voice Views that “Newport” is about a relationship she was in last year.
“We developed this insanely profound connection that changed both of our lives,” she explained.
“But towards the end of the summer, it unfortunately became increasingly complicated and intense and he and I went from spending every minute together to completely cutting each other out.
“The line ‘we always had Newport’ was taken from one of the last letters he wrote to me; I wanted to capture that feeling of nostalgia and knowing that no matter what happens in the future, we will always have those memories from the past.”
“Newport” is just the second single Kylie has released since finishing Top 20 on The Voice Season 11. The first, “Miss Me,” made Voice Views’ list of top post-Voice songs of 2017.
Kylie says “Newport” is also the first song in a project she’s working on with producers Nick Block and Aaron McLendon.
Two upcoming singles — “Monster” and “Know Better” — “will explore the angrier, more vindictive feelings I had last year,” she says. Two others — “Ocean” and “Leave It Here” — “will really get to the heart of the matter.”
Kylie says she’s hoping to release the full project by October or November.
As for joining Alisan’s band, Kylie says she and The Voice Season 10 champ met playing a show together at The Peppermint Club in Los Angeles in February.
“I’ve been a huge fan of hers since I saw her on the season before mine of The Voice; so I was beyond stoked when she asked me to write with her and join her band as a guitarist/vocalist,” Kylie said.
“About an hour into our first session, we discovered we were kindred spirits, as people and as songwriters. Most people might not know this, but she is an incredible songwriter — one of the best I know.
“She also has a gigantic heart and working with her has been better than I could’ve imagined. Her next album is coming soon and I can’t wait for everyone to hear these songs.”
Ah, but we can already hear Kylie’s new single. Here’s “Newport.”
