Recent post-Voice music releases include great new albums from LACES, Bella DeNapoli and Savanna Chestnut.
Here’s a bit more about each of those releases. The links take you to the albums on Apple Music.
* LACES, aka Charlotte Sometimes from Season 2, aka Jessica Vaughn, released “Super Weirdo” earlier this month. It’s her first album in 14 years. And it’s simply chock full of must-hear songs. Some were pre-released as singles, like “Almost Happy,” “Permanent” and the title tune. Some are brand new treats for the ears, like “Say” and “Jersey Shore.” All feature LACES trademark vocals. Jessica wrote an essay called “Adventures of a Super Weirdo” for Atwood Magazine in preparation for the album’s release. And she told KaltBlut: “I’ve never had trouble accessing all of these uncomfortable parts of myself and then hanging myself out to dry in a song, and allowing people to take what they want from that. I feel like that’s your job as an artist: to say the uncomfortable thing that makes people think and helps them feel less alone.” Check out “Super Weirdo” — the song –below.
* Bella DeNapoli from Season 21 recently released her debut album, “Three Letters.” Impressively, every song on the album is a three-letter acronym. And, of course, she says the album was three years in the making. Want to know what’s more impressive? A trio of her songs — the impassioned delivery on “omw,” the glorious vocal on “gtg” and the ridiculously addiction, radio-ready “tbh.” The album, says Bella, “is the key to unlocking my diary. One of my favorite songs is “wtf” because it is an unexpected love song with a twist! My goal while writing 3L was to tell honest stories …. those stories just so happen to be my life.” “wtf” also has a music video, which you can check out below.
* Savanna Chestnut from Season 20 also has a new album out, “Stitches & Scars.” My favorite track, “Like a Desperado,” dropped as a lead single earlier this year and has more than 39,000 streams on Spotify. But Savanna’s also likely to tug on some country heartstrings with songs like “Afghanistan,” “Stitches” and “Scars.” A Go Fund Me campaign helped finance the album. In her pitch, Savanna promised an album “about taking risks, making mistakes, heartbreak, and the scars we earn along the way. As always, I intend to stay true to my roots, and deliver honest, genuine country music that you can two-step, drink, cruise or cry to. No pop nonsense.” Mission accomplished.
