Look at any social media platform you want — Instagram, Twitter or Facebook — and Alejandro and Laine rank in the top two among the 14 remaining contestants.

Laine, who started building a fan base when he appeared on Idol last spring, has an overwhelming edge on Facebook, with 254,000 followers, 200,000 more than anyone else.

But he and Alejandro both have more than 200,000 followers on Instagram and more than 20,000 on Twitter.

The numbers below also show that, if you want to build a fan base, Idol is the place to be. The most popular contestant on rival The Voice has 40,400 followers on Instagram. Thirteen members of the Idol Top 14 have more than that.

Fans vote for the first time this week on Idol. The top seven vote-getters automatically advance to the Top 10.

The judges will then select three more contestants to advance during Monday’s results show, which will also feature performances from every member of the Top 14.
