David Cook, New Idol Music

Listen to David Cook’s new album a week early

18

David Cook’s second post-Idol album, “This Loud Morning,” won’t be released until Tuesday.

But anxious fans don’t have to wait that long to hear the full album.  AOL Music started streaming the album on its site Monday. Just follow this link.

I haven’t had time to listen to the full album yet. But based on the first four songs and the already-released lead single, I’d say David fans won’t be disappointed. The feel-good anthem, “We Believe,” is my favorite of the first three tracks.

Billboard chart-wise, it’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

As the Season Seven winner, David was the last Idol champ to debut with a platinum album. But album number two lands at a time when the Hot 100 is populated by the likes of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.

And a very fine second album by his fellow finalist from Season 7, David Archuleta, went largely ignored by radio and everyone but David A’s very dedicated fan base.

As reported last week, Walmart Soundcheck is featuring an interview and video of songs from David’s new album on its site this week as well.

It is even more than I could have hoped for. Each song reaches beyond the next. You think you have reached the precipice of the album, and another song knocks you over. Such a complete and well thought out CD. Shivers from beginning to end.

All I can say is this album was well worth the wait. David worked hard and strived for perfection on this album, and I say mission accomplished. The songs flow seamlessly from one to the other. His voice has never sounded better and the production is masterful. I don’t think anyone will be disappointed.

THIS LOUD MORNING IS A MUSICAL EPIC MASTERPEICE THAT BREAKS ALL THE RULES. IT’S HEARTFELT AND SOARING AND DEEP AND CRUSHING. IT’S EXCEEDED EVERY EXPECTATION. IT’S SIMPLY GORGEOUS AND GRIPS YOU FROM THE FIRST NOTE AND TAKES YOU ON A JOURNEY AND WHEN YOU RETURN YOU’RE NOT THE SAME, EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT!!!

This album is absolutely amazing. I have been listening on quality headphones and David’s voice is sublime. The songs are all such an emotional saga. David and the band are awesome and Matt Serletic has done a fabulous job with the production. All these songs are high quality songs and could be singles on their own as they are ALL better than at least 95% of the singles released these days. This was well worth the wait. I have been listening on repeat since late last night (actually early morning). Can’t stop listening OR changing favorites. Buy it and enjoy!

    Love it!

This is REAL MUSIC! Written by a Real Singer/Musician/Songwritter/Artist who needs no auto tuning, lazer beams or groceries for cloths to put out great music. If the world out there does not embrace this then I know we are doomed to only hear what TPTB decide we hear. This reminds me that there IS talent out there that needs to be heard! Well done Mr/ Cook!

Simply spectacular. An album that doesn’t have 1 song I want to skip over or cover my ears. Amazing vocals, thank you so much. I am so tired of autotune and hip hop.

On my third listen. I keep discovering more and more wonderful layers to these songs. So well crafted: powerful guitars & drums make this a rockin album; beautiful violins, piano, haunting choruses, heartfelt lyrics and David’s rich voice take you on an emotional journey. I am so impressed with This Loud Morning. Kudos to all involved in this long-awaited album. It does not disappoint!

    Mr. Franklin,
Do yourself a favor and listen to the whole album. You won’t be disappointed. The arc of this album is really well worth a full listen. I hope that radio and the popular listening public can also take the time to embrace something a little different and a lot wonderful.

I echo Folia’s remarks. If there is one album you should listen in it’s entirety before writing a review, it’s this one. I promise you, it’ll be worth your time. I think this album is what true artists strive for. There are artists that do music to sell and then there are artists that do music in order to say something – something relevant; this is that kind of album.

I wasn’t writing a review, just tipping people who might not know off to the fact that the album is available to listen to online. I wouldn’t write a review until I’ve listened to the entire album … and more than once. Anyone who frequents this site knows that.

I don’t believe the person that said that was questioning your write-up. I think they were just asking you to take a complete listen & that you won’t be disappointed–hopefully you won’t anyway!

I do love this album. David’s vocals, the arrangements and the feel of the album make it very special. The beginning and the end have a dream like quality. The middle is filled with hopefulness and disappointment. David takes you for a wondrous ride on this album and I love it.

This album is truly EPIC – and I don’t say that lightly. It’s meant to be listened to from beginning to end. It should not be missed.

This album is more than I could have ever imagined or hoped for. Mult listens and I keep finding new discoveries in his voice, the lyrics and in the instrumentation.
    Best album start to finish

Thank you Mr.Franklin for the article I hope people take your advice and listen to the AOL Stream of David Cook’s This Loud Morning. I love how David has exposed his heart and sensitivity. Each song starts like a ballad but before you know it you can hear a rock edge to them. This is truly a phenominal piece of musical artistry with just enough emotion to take you on a peaceful ride.

Nice article, and thanks for the links. I clicked on the link for the Walmart Soundcheck and it was fabulous to watch David & the band perform some of the songs from the album. I have listened to the AOL stream as well, and I have to say, after just a few listens all the way through, this album is fantastic (and addicting!)
