Former Voice and American Idol contestant Luke Edgemon released a debut single earlier this month and has an EP, “Sweeter Ground,” coming out Friday.

Sharp-eyed TV viewers last spotted former Voice contestant Luke Edgemon when he sang background for Lady Gaga during her Super Bowl halftime performance.

If you’re not watching The Voice, you might spot him again Monday night, when he’ll be singing behind a few of the contestants on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”

But four years after his stint on The Voice Season 4, Luke has also started recording his own music.

In fact, he released his first single, “Same Stars,” earlier this month. And he’ll follow that up with a five-track EP, “Sweeter Ground,” due for release on Friday.

Luke told Voice Views that “Same Stars” was written by two of his friends, Daniel Weidlein and Ryan Amador.

“I think the inspiration behind that song comes from a really honest place that most everyone can relate to, which is pretty simply looking up to the sky and wondering if someone you love, have loved or will love some day is looking at the same ones,” Luke said.

As for the decision to release “Same Stars” as his first single, Luke noted that he’s releasing his music independently and his top priority is growing a fan base that will get behind his music and his sound.

“‘Same Stars’ is arguably the catchiest song on the record, so we thought it’d be the one to draw the masses,” he said. “Listen to it. I bet it’ll be stuck in your head tomorrow.”

When the EP drops Friday, I’ll post more of my interview with Luke, also a former Idol contestant and a former Dalton Academy Warbler on “Glee.”

In the meantime, here’s a live performance of “Same Stars.”
