And fans will immediately note that it has an EMD / dance feel that’s quite different from anything the California-based singer-songwriter had previously released.
Lyndsey, 24, teamed up with music producer Wes White for the track called “Safe and Sound.”
“I’ve always wanted to sing on a track like this just to see what it would sound like, and I’m really happy with the finished product and how people have been responding to it,” Lyndsey told Voice Views. “Wes White is an incredible producer and we instantly connected, so that always helps in the creative process. I wrote the lyrics and the melody, and he did all of the music production.”
Their collaboration is something of a story in itself. They were introduced through one of Lyndsey’s old friends from middle and high school who moved to Missouri and wound up with Wes as his roommate.
Wes checked out Lyndsey’s music and was impressed. Lyndsey checked out Wes’ previous work and felt the same way. So they began working on “Safe and Sound” together.
“What’s crazy is that this song was created by two people who never stepped foot in the same room together,” she says. “It was all done through sending files, email, and talking back and forth. Pretty crazy how the digital age and advances in technology have revolutionized how music can be created.”
What’s more, Lyndsey says they’re already working together on a second track.
“It’s great when you find someone you can vibe with creatively so we want to keep the momentum going.”
So, is this a new musical direction for Lyndsey, who released a four-track debut EP called “Onward” last year?
Lyndsey says she’s not sure about that yet.
“But I think it’s important as artists to not get stuck in a box, step outside of your comfort zone, and try out different styles,” she says. “You may just find some magic there.”
In the meantime, Lyndsey says she’s been writing for a second EP or album. And she also has a special show scheduled for Saturday, July 8, at the Empress Theatre in Vallejo, Calif. It will also feature her Season 9 Team Gwen Stefani colleague Braiden Sunshine.
“We did our first show together last summer and it was so much fun, so Braiden decided he had to make another stop in northern California as part of his U.S. tour,” Lyndsey says.
