Meet 2Steel Girls of Team Blake on The Voice

The Voice has featured duos before, but never a mother-daughter country duo.

Enter 2Steel Girls, actually half of a family band that also includes the husband/father on drums and son/brother on guitar.

But the gals — Allison Steel, 44, and Krystal Steel, 23 — were front and center on The Voice, hoping to finally get their big break in the music business.

“We’ve got to play some great place,” Allison told The Voice. “But we play for free, so money’s a struggle.”

And pursuing music has meant sacrifices, like selling the family truck and quitting her job in order to audition for the show.

“I want my children to see that no matter where you come from, huge things can happen if you keep trying and keep going and don’t give up,” Allison told The Voice.

For their audition, the Steel ladies belted out Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” Both Blake and Cee Lo turned their chairs around.

They chose Blake, despite high praise from Cee Lo who said they sounded very good individually, “but the union of you two was even more impressive.”

What the show didn’t show: The gals actually hoped to land on Team Christina, which explains their indecision when she didn’t turn around. One factor in their decision: Given his penchant for elaborate stage productions, they were afraid Cee Lo might put them on a high wire or make them dance. Wise ladies, though I think they were joking when they said that during an interview with Keepin’ It Country. On Facebook, we learn that Krystal and hr brother Aaron started singing in church when they were 12 and 13, but it wasn’t until April 2011 that the mother and daughter actually formed a duo. They’ve since released a seven-track, self-titled album on iTunes. The single is embedded below. And here are links to their website and YouTube channel.

Editor’s Note: Check back for live blogs once the battle rounds begin on The Voice.

2Steel Girls perform “Chasing You,” a song from their self-titled album.
