Through American Idol’s first three audition episodes of Season 14, we saw several singers advance to Hollywood by 2-1 votes.

In every case but one, Harry Connick Jr. was the guy casting the “no” vote.

Alexis Gomez, 22, of Dayton, Ohio, is the gal who got Harry to say “yes.”

She auditioned with a spirited rendition of “Little White Church” and had Jennifer Lopez praising her as “the complete package.”

Harry called her “very talented,” but also warned that there are lots of very talented country singers in the competition this year.

On the show, Alexis described herself as “the hippie, Mexican hillbilly.”

Want to know more?

Her full name is Alexis Sarah Elizabeth Gomez. She stands 6-feet tall. And in addition to having a heck of a country voice, she plays piano, guitar and dabbles with a few other instruments, including banjo, bass and drums, according to her Facebook bio.

And while she doesn’t appear to have released any music to iTunes, you can head to her website to listen to three original tracks. “Country Lovin'” is my favorite, and Alexis also performs it at the end of the video I’ve embedded below.

That Facebook bio also tells us Alexis’ dad, brother and sister are all musicians. She joined the family band and, to quote the bio, “it wasn’t long before she was stealing the show.”

Alexis grew up in the Dayton, Ohio, area and has also been a worship leader at SouthBrook Christian Church in Miamisburg, Ohio. At the time the Facebook bio was posted, she was a senior at Wright State University, studying to become a Spanish teacher.

“As an artist I hope to be able to create music that people want to sing and listen to,” she says. “I would also love to bring something a little different to country music, which is where I hope to weave some of my Hispanic heritage into my music.”

Her major musical influences include Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert, Garth Brooks, The Band Perry and Taylor Swift.

Here are some Alexis links, followed by a couple samples of her music. The second, “Gone,” is an orginal, not a cover of The Band Perry hit of the same name.
