Meet American Idol contestant Chelsea Sorrell

Chelsea Sorrell made it to the top 60 on American Idol Season 10.

“Sick with the flu,” she notes.  “Hopefully, this year, I’ll do better healthy.”

She’ll get the chance.  Chelsea, 23 at the time of the auditions, got a golden ticket in Savannah.

We didn’t get to hear her sing in the episode, but we did see the gal from Stokesdale, N.C., clutching that golden ticket.

Chelsea is an aspiring country singer and vocalist with the Chris Lane Band, which released a four-song EP in December 2010.

But she started singing long before that.  She says she’d gather up her dolls as an audience when she was very young.

And, on Facebook, she talks about visiting her grandmother’s, where she would “drag out the karaoke machine that was bigger than I was, lol, and I was ready to put on a show for everyone in the house.”

When she was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, the answer was always the same: country singer, she says, and that hasn’t changed.

Should she do well on Idol, Chelsea says she also wants to make sure she’s a good role model.

“I don’t want to be the crazy singer that has all this money now and acts crazy and does drugs.  You know, all that kind of mess,” Chelsea says.  “I have a 10-year-old little sister, and I want her to have someone she can look up to.”

Here’s Chelsea singing three songs.  To hear more, head to the website for the Chris Lane Band or to Chelsea’s YouTube channel.
