Wayne Wilson figured the timing was perfect to audition for Idol last summer in Savannah.
He had just graduated from school. He had just left a job.
Why not pursue a dream?
“You never know if you are what they’re looking for,” he says in his golden ticket interview. “It was just amazing that they thought me to be part of their puzzle for this season. It’s a chance to prove myself.”
Wayne is from nearby Baltimore, Md., and describes himself on Facebook as “a singer/songwriter here to mold the world.”
He’s working on a mixtape called “For Black Hearts Everywhere,” and if you head to that Facebook page, you can hear one of the songs on it, “The Love Will Find You.”
Wayne says his most memorable early performance came in fifth grade when he sang R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” at his elementary school graduation.
And why does he think he could become the Season 11 American Idol?
“I am unapologetically myself at all times,” he tells Idol. “I think a lot of people will identify with the individual and with my sound.”
