She had all four coaches facing her direction by the time she hit the chorus. Blake Shelton raved over her vocals, calling her voice “a completely new sound.” Pharrell Williams complimented Emily on using the entire “tapestry” of her voice during the performance and called that voice “magical.”

Her background: She explains that her home is in the middle of nowhere. She lives on 37 acres of forested land that’s very private and quiet. Music was always going on, she says. She recalls her dad introducing her to the music of Johnny Cash, Elvis and The Beatles. Her parents got Emily her first guitar when she was 10. “A couple of years later, I started playing shows.” Emily says she started writing her own songs at age 12. “When you’re quiet and introspective as a kid, sometimes it’s hard to put your thoughts into words,” she says. “When you’re writing a song, it’s a great way to communicate things.” Now, she feels ready for a bigger stage.

What the show didn’t show:

  • At age 16, Emily already has three EPs and a full-length album to her credit.
  • The album, “A Book of New Beginnings,” was released in 2013, when she was just 14.
  • Her most recent release, an impressive EP called “East of the Sun,” came out last year. You can check out two of the standout tracks — “Let It Shine” and “To Die” — below. Emily wrote all the songs for the album.
  • That album was made with the help of the well-known Ohio band The Womacks.
  • Emily calls herself a story teller in a video about that release. To date, she’s written more than 100 songs.
  • She says working with The Womacks was her first musical endeavor in a group setting and calls it “one of the best experiences of my life so far.”
  • Says Noah Heyman of The Womacks: “She’s wise beyond her years, and I’m always surprised by her maturity. She just writes these amazing songs.”
  • Her Voice bio says Emily has struggled with depression and hopes her music helps others confront similar feelings.
  • She’s been performing around Ohio for five years now, and often does so playing her dad’s old acoustic guitar.
  • On iTunes: Her performance from The Voice as well as the 11-track “A Book of New Beginnings” from 2013 and the eight-track “East of the Sun” from 2015.
