Her audition: Angie Rey, 25, Seminole, Fla., performed “Penthouse” by Kelsea Ballerini. She sounded fabulous when she hit the chorus and that was all it took for Kelsea to turn her chair. As it turned out, only Kelsea turned. But it seemed like Kelsea was going to be Angie Rey’s pick anyway. Then Kelsea joined Angie Rey on stage to perform a snippet of the song.

* She’s a 25-year-old country singer with singing show experience and music already out.

* The later includes four singles on streaming sites from 2022 and 2023. Her latest were “Jezebel” and “Who Is This Girl.”

* The singing show experience started on the Spanish-language competition La Voz Kids. Angie competed at age 13 and made it to the Top 18.

* Two years later, at age 15, she auditioned for American Idol Season 14. She advanced to the end of Hollywood Week — the Top 75.

* In a 2023 UpNCountry interview, she calls those “very different” but “very cool experiences.” Of her time on Idol, she adds: “I don’t entirely think I was ready for it.”

* Angie’s of Cuban descent; both her parents were born there. She was born in southern California, but her family relocated to Tampa, Fla.

* She began singing around age 5, but recalls being painfully shy when she started vocal lessons. A well-received performance at a recital where her older brother also performed ignited her interest in music.

* Angie says she started singing country music when she was 16, inspired by her experience at a Lady A concert. “I felt it in my core,” she said in her Voice bio segment.

* Now Nashville-based, Angie has opened for country stars Scotty McCreery, Tanya Tucker, Wynonna Judd and John Michael Montgomery.

* They’ve sang together again since. Angie attended a Kelsea show in Tampa last month. Kelsea called her on stage so they could sing “Homecoming Queen” together. Angie has the occasion documented in a pair of posts on her Instagram.

* Angie also released a single recently, a song called “Running Back.” She says it’s the first co-write she’s released. “I honestly can’t put into words how much this means to me. This song is a piece of my heart, and I’ve poured so much of myself into it. ”
