Idol premieres March 11 with Katy Perry, Lionel Ritchie and Luke Bryan as the judges who determine which singers make it to Hollywood and which don’t.
Here’s more about Brandon Diaz.
He’s 21, a former resident of Ashburn, Va., and has been attending the Berklee College of Music.
According to his Facebook bio, Brandon began singing the national anthem at local and national events around age 8 and decided to pursue music after a performance in front of 30,000 people at a Washington Capitals NHL game when he was 14.
Once at Berklee, he teamed up with five fellow students to form Brandon Diaz ‘N Soul, which he describes as a progressive R&B/funk group. In fact, a year ago at this time, they were preparing for a Battle of the Bands competition at Berklee.
That Facebook bio says Brandon previously auditioned for The Voice and the X Factor.
The Voice audition came in Season 4 when a cover of “Fine by Me” failed to turn a chair. The X Factor appearance came at age 16 in 2013, where Brandon said he was thrilled to get a “yes” from the notoriously tough Simon Cowell.
All of the videos on Brandon’s YouTube channel are at least two years old, but I’ve embedded a more recent and impressive performance of Bruno Mars’ “24K” with Brandon Diaz N Soul below.
