Chandler Leighton was part of a three-singer montage in American Idol’s San Francisco audition episode.

We saw her stand and deliver a soulful version of “New York State of Mind” that gave Jennifer Lopez her now famous goosies.

But Chandler apparently performed at least two numbers for the judges.

On YouTube, she has posted a 40-second snippet of a very nice acoustic cover of “Bloom” by the Paper Kites. You can check it out here.

She sang that song sitting down and writes “I don’t think my voice and I have ever been more nervous in our lives…. What a surreal experience this was. Maybe sitting in that chair wasn’t such a bad idea.”

Nerves or not, Chandler got three well-deserved quick “yes” votes from the Idol judges.

The show identified her as a 20-year-old student from Los Angeles.

What the show didn’t show: Chandler told the Golden Gate Xpress that American Idol reached out and encouraged her to audition for Season 14 after seeing her video covers online.

“I was super shocked,” she told the site. “To me, I’m not Kelly Clarkson. I’m not Carrie Underwood. I’m me.”

Chandler started singing in elementary school musicals and says she considers herself fortunate to have found something she enjoyed and a skill she could hone at such a young age.

On Facebook, she now describes herself as a “coffeehouse singer.”

She’s also a San Francisco State audio production student who says she wants to make a career of music, producing songs if not singing them.

Here are some Chandler links, followed by a couple of samples of her music.
