Her background: Delaney says that when she announced her interest in music, her family wasn’t sure what to do. That’s because the family was so into wrestling, including Delaney, who wrestled on a co-ed team. But she praises her family for being so supportive when she transitioned into music and musical theater. About six months before her bio was filmed, Delaney moved to L.A. to pursue music.
On working with Kelly: During her critique, Kelly said Delaney reminded her of herself, but that she was “in her head” a bit too much while performing. “I was really taken aback when she said that because it was so true. And I was surprised that she could really just pick that right out from my minute or minute and a half of singing. I think it was extremely intuitive of her to do. And obviously like growing up listening to Kelly Clarkson, I’m so flattered that she saw a little bit of herself in me. I think she is a great fit for me as a coach just because she was able to identify that in me and has been really helpful.”
What the show didn’t show:
* In a TV interview, Delaney recalls being asked to sing by her first-grade teacher and receiving praise for her voice. “So I thought, I’m probably pretty good at this,” Delaney recalled during the interview. “I got a karaoke machine, and I couldn’t be pulled away from it.”
* She was born and raised in the Adirondacks of upstate New York.
* She was student at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduated early so she could head to L.A. and get a jump start pursuing a career in music.
* On Facebook, she classifies herself as a pop and R&B singer-songwriter. And she says her influences range from Elvis to Adele.
* Last April, she released a five-track EP called “Access” as Delaney.
* That EP has a definite soulful pop vibe. To get a feel for what Delaney’s capable of, check out the funky lead single “No Shame” and the lovely EP-closing ballad “Remedy.”
* You can check out more of her music on her Soundcloud page.
* Her social media mantra: “I write and sing stuff I’d probably still say to you in person.”
* On her Odyssey blog, she writes that she’s always chafed when others encouraged her to pursue a more reliable career.
