Erica Washington was the very last singer we met during American Idol’s Season 14 New Orleans audition episode.

But she left one of the biggest impressions on the judges after a rendition of Beyonce’s “Halo” that showed off the power and range in her voice.

In fact, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. said they didn’t think of Beyonce once during Erica’s audition because they were so impressed by her performance.

So the 24-year-old student from Mobile, Alabama, breezed through to Hollywood via a unanimous vote of the judges.

In a brief pre-audition clip, Erica said she felt blessed to have the chance to audition for the show and felt she had to make the most of the opportunity.

She said she had her daughter at age 18 and “had to put a lot of things on hold,” presumably meaning her aspirations in music.

As for making the most of the opportunity … well, she certainly did that.

What the show didn’t show: Erica is a gospel singer who describes herself on Twitter as “a woman in love with music who puts God and family first. I’m in a good place, loving life and making my dreams a reality.”

In her Facebook bio, Erica tells us she’s been singing since age 3 and grew up singing in church.

She attended the University of South Alabama as a music major and has shared the stage with gospel artist Tasha Cobbs and Maurette Brown Clark, that bio says.

It also indicates that she’s working on an album she hopes to release later this year.

Here are some Erica links, followed by a couple of samples of her music.
