I sorta felt bad for Linda Williams after Thursday’s edition of American Idol.
She’s the 24-year-old bartender from League City, Texas, who was part of a four-gal montage during the Galveston episode and the only one to receive a golden ticket.
The implication was clear. The other three could sing better, but she wound up going to Hollywood because she showed up in a leather jacket and short skirt.
After she left the room, Jennifer Lopez proclaimed her “awful” and asked Randy Jackson: “Were you guys watching her walk or something?”
In truth, we heard so little of Linda’s version of Alicia Key’s “Fallin'” that it’s impossible to make any judgment on her singing ability.
Sure, the snippet we heard didn’t sound great, but that could be a case of creative Idol editing. Let’s just say it wouldn’t be the first time.
Steven Tyler told Linda he “loves her voice” and Randy thought she was talented enough to give another look … or listen … in Hollywood.
In her golden ticket interview, Linda says her friends, family and son inspired her to audition. She said all the stuff she’s been through makes her unique, without elaborating.
And while Idol identified her as a bartender — something her pics on Twitter confirm — she identifies herself as “dancer, singer, traveler and driven by music.”
“I want to move people (through music),” she says in that golden ticket interview. “I want to be that one that stands up on the stage … and I make them have a better day. Or if they’re feeling down, this song that I wrote or performed helps them get through it.”
If you missed Linda’s audition, here it is again.
