Idol returned to ABC on Sunday, Feb. 18 with the coaching trio of Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan back intact.
Here’s more about Jack.
* A musician from Dallas, Texas, who is in his 20s, Jack arrives at Idol with lots of already released music.
* Much of that comes from being one half of an alternative rock duo called Rightfield with longtime friend Reed Hoelscher.
* But in the past year, he’s also released a half dozen singles classified as folk on Apple Music.
* “I originally just made them with some soul healing in mind but figured it’d be cool to share them with y’all and hopefully enjoy them together,” Jack writes on Instagram. Check out the excellent “Swear to God” below.
* Does the release of solo music mark the end of Rightfield? Hardly. “Reed and I are writing some of my favorite songs we’ve ever made together and the band’s getting better every day.”
* As for that band, Jack and Reed were friends in middle school, but lost touch when they attended different high schools.
* Alas, they wound up in the same dorm at the University of Arkansas, reunited and learned, for the first time, that both had grown a love for music. Hence, a duo was formed.
* And it’s been a pretty successful duo, with a debut album, “Rightfield, One,” landing in 2021 and a handful of singles since, including “Self Love” in 2023.
* The band’s song “Gone” has been streamed more than 1.2 million times on Spotify while two others — “Big Tex” and “Love Song” — are approaching 250,000 streams.
* In a 2021 interview about the band, Jack said his biggest musical influences include The Avett Brothers, Mumford & Sons and Willie Nelson.
