Jerome Godwin from The Voice Season 23

The Voice returns to NBC Tuesday night.

Here’s more on Jerome:

* He’s a graduate of Chipley High School in Florida and a student at Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama.

* This will be his second time auditioning in front of The Voice judges. He failed to turn a chair in Season 19, but said John Legend encouraged him to return for a second attempt at the show.

* Jerome’s an aspiring R&B / gospel artist and released a gospel-inspired single called “My Everything” last spring. You can check it out below.

* He grew up in Ashford, Ala. And in an interview posted on Auburn’s website, he said his love for music comes naturally since he comes “from a singing family” and watched his mother play piano in church every week as a child.

* By age 12, he’d decided he wanted to pursue music seriously and released a song called “I’m Still a Kid.”

* According to his Spotify bio, he’s since led praise and worship and served as music director for severn churches.

* He’s now a worship leader at Northview Christian Church Safe Harbor in Montgomery, Ala.

* Jerome also auditioned for American Idol in the past. And in 2019, he appeared on the Lifetime show “Ms. T’s Music Factory,” in which Temmora Levy doled out advice to aspiring musicians.

* In the Auburn interview, he said his musical inspirations include im Burrell, John Legend, Brandy, and Todd Dulaney.

* And this is a young man with dual aspirations. He’s working toward a biology degree with a concentration in pre-dentistry at Auburn with the intention of attending dental school after he graduates in 2024.

* Said Jerome: “I know it seems like a completely different path, but I plan to continue releasing music while I’m in dental school. I know I may not be able to perform as much as I would want during dental school, but making music that people enjoy would be an accomplishment for me.”
