His audition: John Holiday, 35, of Rosenberg, Texas, performed “Misty” by Johnny Mathis. John turned immediately. Kelly followed shortly thereafter, but was blocked by John. Gwen turned late in the performance. Kelly called his range “incredible.” John called everything John Holiday did “so beautiful.” Gwen loved his “retro” vibe. John Holiday opted to join Team John Legend.

* Blessed with an unusually high voice, John says he always sang in the soprano section in his church choir, which resulted in him being teased for singing “like a girl.”

* But he says in an April 2020 video that he never let the ridicule deter him. “I’ve always known that I was supposed to be a singer,” he added.

* Even after puberty, he kept his soprano range. Now he’s an in-demand and award-winning countertenor who’s performed around the world.

* His background is in gospel and jazz music. In fact, he’s performed with Jason Mraz and released a jazz album called “The Holiday Guide.”

* But he’s also classically trained with a master in vocal performance from the University Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and a diploma in opera studies from Juilliard in New York.

* He made his operatic debut in 2011 and in 2015 was named one of Broadway World’s “New York Opera Gifts the Keep on Giving.”

* In fact, John’s already scheduled to make his Metropolitan Opera debut next March.

* On Instagram, John says he’s also on the receiving end of many surname jokes. But he writes: “Who wouldn’t want a name like that!? When I open my mouth to sing – I want all, within earshot, to feel the joy one experiences during a holiday.”
