His audition: Julian King, 25, Philadelphia, Pa., performed “All-Time Low” by Jon Bellion. He got very quick chair turns from Adam Levine and John Legend. But Adam was blocked by John and, since the other coaches didn’t turn, that mean John automatically landed Julian. John called Julian’s voice clear and powerful.

About Julian:

* Julian got his start singing in his grandfather’s church at age 12. He talent led him to the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) as well as The University of the Arts (UARTS). He studied vocals and dance.

* He released a first single called “No Strings” in 2015, followed by an EP called “Sing for You.” Julian has a writing credit on all seven songs. And while you won’t find the EP on iTunes, it’s still available on Soundcloud and Audio Mack.

* “I was (and still am) super excited about it because it’s my first baby,” Julian told Voice Views. “I ended up working some really reputable producers like BAM, DOX, and Brian Michael Cox, who have all worked with the likes of Usher, Miguel, Justin Timberlake and more.

* In 2017, he was invited to go on a hotel tour of China, which he calls “a really defining moment for me.” That said, it was a cover song gig. “Six nights a week, 4 hours per night. A LOT OF SINGING,” Julian said.

* The Voice invited him to audition shortly after he returned from China. “I decided to try out because I am walking in this new light of not limiting myself to opportunities that are literally handed to me. I believe in divine timing, and I feel like this is it,” he said.

* As for singing “All Time Low” for his audition, Julian told Voice Views: “Jon Bellion is someone I respect and look up to musically. All Time Low has actually been my favorite song for years, and it only felt appropriate that if I had 90 seconds to prove myself, it’d be with a song I felt so comfortable with.”

* Julian says his music has changed a lot since that 2015 EP. “I’ve traveled the world a few times since that release, and now can talk and understand from different perspectives, and relate to so many more types of people. My sound would be good mixture of Jon Bellion, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, Prince, and Kevin Michael.”

* And while Julian wound up not having to choose a coach thanks to John’s use of the block, Julian said “I was already leaning more toward John Legend.”
