Idol returns to ABC on Monday, Jan. 26 with the judging trio of Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood.
Here’s more about Kainoa:
* He’s Kainoa Reyes, an R&B and reggae artist from Hawaii. He uses Kainoa Tiger as a stage name and has released music as KNG.KAI.
* He’s music camp leader and peer support recovery coach at Nate’s Place, a wellness and recovery center for young adults, ages 13-25, struggling with addiction in Oxnard, California.
* The owners named the center after their son Nate, who became addicted to drugs as a teen, but got sober with the help of a recovery center and peer counseling.
* Sadly, Nate died in a traffic accident at age 22. Kainoa wrote a song called “Nate’s WRLD” as a tribute to him. It’s a catchy and touching song with a touch of rap. It’s also one of the songs he performed during his Idol audition. He released the song in 2022.
* Kainoa calls himself “nomad boy” on TikTok, where he already has more than 3,500 followers and 25,000 likes on his page.
* He’s since released a pair of EPs, the six-song “Sunshine Blvd” in 2024 and the six-song “Run from the Reggae (But the Reggae ever Runs from You)” in August.
* His latest single dropped in September It’s called “What You Do to Me.” Writes Kainoa: The song “is the perfect ending for that summer ting that would make you do just about anythingggg to be with her.” Check out the song below.
