Lauren Mascitti auditioned for American Idol Season 18.

American Idol returns for Season 18 on Sunday, Feb. 16.

And one of the contestants we might meet is country singer Lauren Mascitti.

Back in November, Lauren posted a screenshot from an American Idol commercial that showed her auditioning for Season 18.

Here’s more about Lauren:

* She’s from Louisville, Ohio, but moved to Nashville permanently in 2014 after years of traveling back and forth for music.

* She graduated from nursing school at Stark State College before that move and was working as a registered nurse by day and an entertainer by night, according to an article in the Canton Repository.

* You might say she’s been performing for some time, releasing her first album at age 7, according to her web bio. By age 12, she was performing six nights at week at the Americana Theater in Branson, Missouri.

* Lauren had also released four solo albums before age 12 and now has nine to her credit. Four of those — “Thought I’d Get a Love Song” (2010), “A Gypsy Point of View” (2014), “Never Just a Song” (2015) and “God Made a Woman” (2020) are available on streaming sites.

* And that’s right, Lauren just released her latest album on Jan. 8. It’s an impressive 13-song collection, and Lauren has a writing credit on 10 of those tracks. She co-wrote three of the songs with musician fiance Shawn Camp. I’ve embedded a snippet of my favorite track — “All the Words He Never Said” — below. A great song and a great plaintive vocal from Lauren.

* Lauren was adopted and raised by her grandparents and said her music is influenced by her grandmother’s love of old-school soul and gospel music and her grandfather’s affection for outlaw country.

* As for the new album, Lauren says: “I grew up with gospel and traditional country, but this album is about more than tradition. I want to put a fresh spin on everything, while still grounding it in an earthy, rootsy vein. God Made a Woman is a mix of the traditional and the fresh.”

* Oh, and if you’re wondering about that last name, it rhymes with “spaghetti,” Lauren shares on social media.

Keep checking back. Lots more Season 18 profiles are coming.
