American Idol returns for Season 18 on Sunday, Feb. 16.

Among contestants who auditioned is Lauren Spencer-Smith.

Here’s more about Lauren.

* She’s 16 and hails from Port Alberni in British Columbia and is a junior at Dover Bay High School.

* She became a viral sensation last year when her dad posted a video of her singing Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way” in his van.

* The video wound up with more than 19 million views on Facebook, capturing the attention of Steve Harvey, who invited Lauren onto his show to perform. She sang Pink’s “What About Us.”

* Lauren told her hometown newspaper that she was actually on her way to the hospital to get an MRI on her knee due to a sports injury when her dad made the video.

* But if that type of attention was new, the singing was not. Lauren’s been singing since she was young and told the Times Colonist in Nanaimo that “from a young age, I wanted to be in front of people and perform.”

* She also got a prime opportunity to do that when she was 11, won a radio contest and wound up performing on stage with Keith Urban at a show in Cowichan, British Columbia. She recently posted a video of that performance on her Facebook page.

* Lauren’s since released an official version of her cover of “Always Remember Us That Way,” as well as a second cover “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi.

* Then, in September, she followed up with a 10-song live cover album that includes songs like “Used to be Mine,” “Clarity” and “Make You Feel My Love.”

* At the end of the year, at age 16, she had racked up 1.4 million streams on Spotify.

* On March 1, she’ll be releasing a new single called “Crazy.” That’s right, the song will come out the same day her Idol audition airs.

* She announced her Idol audition on Instagram, writing: “You told me to do it so I did!!! I auditioned for @americanidol !!! I got the opportunity to sing for the amazing judges!!!! Who are @katyperry @lukebryan & @lionelrichie 🤩 I’m so grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to share it with you all!!”
