Ron Bultongez will be a contestant on the new season of American Idol.

Ron Bultongez is among contestants who have announced on social media that they auditioned for ABC’s new version of American Idol.

Idol premieres March 11 with Katy Perry, Lionel Ritchie and Luke Bryan as the judges who determine which singers make it to Hollywood and which don’t.

Here’s more about Ron Bultongez.

He was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa and immigrated to the U.S. with his mother and siblings to get away from the civil war there.

Still, he had a turbulent home life once reaching this country, struggling with homelessness at one point.

Now based in Plano, Texas, the 21-year-old describes himself as a bluesy singer-songwriter on his website.

He released his first single, “I Don’t Understand,” in 2016, followed by a five-song EP called “Thank You Plano” and a more recent single called “New Cycles” last year.

Here’s what Ron writes on YouTube about that song: “Some of us have lived through some really tough, abusive, negative, and unhealthy family dynamics. Oftentimes, they’re generational habits that our parents learned from their parents, and our grandparents from their parents.

“I believe that when it’s your turn to be a parent or grow up, you can decide that I will break that chain. I will end that cycle. I will not carry on those habits. So, as a songwriter, I wrote a song about it. My hope is that this will encourage you to create a positive New Cycle.”

I’d also encourage everyone to check out this interview with Ron. It has nothing to do with music and everything to do with the obstacles this young man has had to overcome. He has a fascinating backstory.
